Purple Unicorn: Wow I am in a similar situation. I was put up for adoption at 14 months and never met any of my biological family. Then my mother in law did some very impressive detective work and tracked down my birth aunt. I very much want to go visit her since we have only conversed on the phone but she lives in the Gabriola Islands and I am inland in Nelson.
I don't know if she is a fan of British comedy but as a child it was all my adoptive parents would really let me watch so I got hooked that way.
I think that proves nature and nurture equally effective in influencing one.
I mean... my birth mother was schitzophrenic and I am simply... a little quirky.
I've got to say... My son is behaving exactly as I did when I was his age. I'm surprised my parents let me live to see 25.
There is a LOT to be said for Nature v. Nurture. WAY too much of my sons' (both of them) personalities come from either me or their fathers. My oldest son, he is his father's clone. My younger son... he's me. Which infuriates me, as I can see his impending disasters and am helpless to do anything about them but stand by and piss him off with my suggestions.
Why is being a parent so HARD? I thought I had skipped over all of this. Now, I'm trying to be supportive but find myself being bitchy and over bearing. I think because I missed out on so much, I want to spend every minute with them. Nothing like smothering them now!
Good luck with the reunion. Please just know that reunions are fraught with a roller-coaster ride of emotions. You think you've got it all sorted, then something else crops up and everyone has hurt feelings all over again. UGH.
Take it slow. My only advice.
Some things in life are bad, they can really make you
mad..." and... "always look on the Bright Side of Life..."
BroMaynardG: One other option.
We all have a mental disease!
Absurditosis!
Industrial Disease???
Maybe one of us has DID and everyone else is that one person's alter and we are all just waiting for the day when that person figures out what happened to him because then we get the joy of choosing between ceasing to exist and continuing down a crazy path.
Jatta: I'm truly and sincerely happy for you! :)
Reading that makes me believe in miracles. All the best for you and your boys :)

Right, let's have a ding dong!
arkennedy: As far as whether love for British comedy is hereditary or not, I don't know the answer to that either.
I did find a website that has Nature vs. Nurture studies though:
http://genealogy.about.com/cs/geneticgenealogy/a/nature_nurture.htm
if anyone is interested.
Thanks for the link :)
