We're all Lumberjacks?

I had a surreal experience today which I feel you good people will find amusing.

I walked into Myers, which is like the upper class (twit) version of K-mart - It's the same stuff, but in different boxes and three times the price, and as I was walking past the young womens fashion section, something caught my eye, and it was neither shiny nor on sale. No, it was a lumberjack shirt. I kid you not. I figured it warranted further investigation, and I discovered it was a fairly well known Aussie label (Bardot, if you care).

Bursting into a chorus of "I'm a Lumberjack and I'm ok" and doing a little bit of a mime-dance thing, I turned around to see another one, by a different label! (again, if you must know, Purr) I'm waiting for the matching heels, suspenders and bra!

I scoured the sites of both brands for an image, but alas I found none, so now I am trawling through hours of Melbourne Fashion Week video to see if I can find another example (I mean, one brand could just be a fluke, but two?!?). I hate today's models, they actually frighten me a little because they're heads look too big, but if I find one dressed up as Michael Palin, I'll be sure to post it.

Some part of me would like to see it catch on, but it worries me that flanelette may become socially acceptable attire (like ugg boots).

Oh wow

If only I could walk in high heels...
Then I'd be set for all the latest fashions!

Flanel is coming back?

Weird how stuff fashion comes and goes in circles.. I do own a flanel shirt. Pitty it isn't red, it's green.

I too have a flanel shirt

and mine actually is red! Hmmm, perhaps for once in my life I could be at the frontier of fashion. I just can't wait to see the gangs of 13-14 year olds wandering around in flanel shirts and davy crocker hats. Then I can walk around behind them singing, sort of like a minstrel - Do you suppose Neil Innes would come with me?

Oh yes!

We'll start a flanel revolution! All around the world we start wearing flanel shirts, so the teens have no option but to follow along.

Tee hee, that would be a funny sight. If Neil won't come, I'd be glad to accompany you!

Yay

That way we can both have embarrassed teenagers make half-hearted insults towards us. Yippeeee.

It's just a bit of a phenomenon here, where groups of girls all dress the same (well, they all dress in the clothing on the manequins in stores). It's a big joke for us, they're the same ones with the orange fake tans and inches of makeup....I just want to see those same girls in lumberjack gear.

In finnish

we have a name for such groups and girls: a "pissis". Apparently it comes from "pissa-liisa", and if you have any intrest, you can work out what it means in english.

Looks like we have a mission!

That is an excellent term

It will be a widely used one in Oz by the end of the week. (my Finnish isn't perfect, but that I can translate)

A mission? Perhaps even a quest!

To seek the limits of the pissis!

Do tell me then what translation you come up with! It's hard to me translate it, since english ain't me mother tongue.

Me too

I've got a red one, but it's far too small. :( But I wore it when I was younger (and when I hadn't heard 'bout the lumberjack song).
