The Evil Machines... Again, please!
After a painful week making daily countdowns and nagging everybody online about it, the day finally arrived.
7h30 pm and I’m going through the list of things to take which I previously made in order not to forget anything with the excitement. Alice is staying with her cousin, phone, purse, camera, car keys… Where the hell are the car keys… husband. Yeap, everything’s in place, let’s roll! I came back, the tickets…
8h56 pm, we arrive at the venue. Inside the theatre room I spot Mr. Jones and I go over to exchange a few words… But that something completely different, I’ll tell you about it some other time.
The room is completely packed.
The opera begins. Six Hoovers on stage, singing about being very important and evil!
All of the sudden, in comes a gigantic Hoover like nothing I’ve ever seen before. You don’t know whether to laugh or to go wwwwoooooo! His plan is to rule the world. Yet, his pride makes him swell so much that he ends up bursting.
The story is about a scientist (who we know from his wife disappeared mysteriously from earth and is now living at the Iron Cloud) who wants his inventions - the machines - to rule the world. Now, there is the evil party (cars, motorcycles, gas pumps, parking meters, TV remotes…) and the good party (a telephone, an alarm clock, an egg-whisk, an oven, a vespa, a misunderstood human girl, a plain…). Obviously, the good party is here to ensure that life goes on as we know it.
Best friends Nancy (the girl) and Lester (the vespa) discover the plans of the evil scientist through the alarm clock, who bravely jumped from the Iron Cloud down to earth - after he and his friends discover the plan themselves - even though he knew that the fall would destroy him and that he might never see the love of his life again, the beautiful egg-whisker. (Fear not, the alarm clock returns by the end of the opera fully recovered and ends up marrying her).
After that, Lester takes Nancy to see his friend, the airplane RAF, who is afraid of heights but, along with the scientist’s wife, has to help Nancy to get to the Iron Cloud to try and stop the evil scientist. But she gets there and alas, there is not one, but two scientist! (An evil twin? A clone? I won’t tell, that’s too much of a spoiler.) Both scientist – one good and one evil – will have to fight in order to decide the faith of human beings. How will they fight? Discovering which one of them is the most intelligent. All of the sudden, the dark and obscure set gives place to a “Who is the most intelligent” TV show set!!!
I’ll stop now, adding only that there is a happy ending for everyone, including the evil scientist.
As for the music and the stage props… The word to describe it is yet to be invented. “Fan-perf-umbel-amaz” would be a good start. You may see the props in the pictures GNA has been posting (if you didn’t, do it now!) It’s amazing! The actors are just perfect. In fact, I wondered once or twice if Terry Jones himself had dressed up as scientist and joined the cast on stage. That’s how good they were. Nancy is fantastic. All the machines are amazing. I’m repeating myself, I’m sorry for that it’s just that… AAhhhggghhhh…
Trough the next couple of days you will have to put up with me a few more times, for I’m not done yet!!
I hope you are enjoying it so far; I really tried to put into words the aaagghhh that I’m feeling right now, but believe me, it’s quite difficult.
If you ever get the chance to see it, please do, it’s a unique experience.
