Ripping Yarns

Along with this photo comes the discovery that it is really hard to get a good scan of a book cover.

If you look closely, you can see that it is a well-loved book (scratches and marks galore!) The library isn't getting it back! (they lost it in the first place)

That I have only seen the first episode of Ripping Yarns: Tomkinsons School Days and that was the only one with Terry in it. I will be seeing the other episodes when I visit Lady April next month though so I am pretty excited about that.

He has such a great voice. I always start laughing when he starts singing about being Miss. World when they were reminiscing about Oxford days. But then I had to check myself because I had forgotten that women were not allowed in those acting competitions and festivals back then at Oxford and Cambridge. Which is prolly why all the pythons are very skilled in playing women.

They were boy's schools at the time, there were no girls.

I was going to go to Oxford (no, really) but other than not being able to afford moving to England, and having reservations about boarding style schooling, I was also basically told that it was still very much a boy's club and me being not only an international student but female would make life difficult.

There was originally a point to that story, but I seem to have forgotten it.

The British education system is very different to the rest of the world.

I say you move in lock, stock and hairdryer and show those boys that girls can belong there too. Honestly I had no idea about British schools I guess I should figure it out seeing as I plan to do grad school there.

I could afford it.

I'm thinking I'll go for a year or so if I can get funding.

Lemming_Of_The_BDA: Did you say you were holding it for ransom?
I wonder what you'd ask for if you did...
probably a python

pythons are a bit like strippers, they're nice to look at, but you wouldn't want to own one.

Wait, that's not true......

"and here is my collection of monty python stuff"
"what's that?"
"what's what?"
"that"
"oh that's my monty python member collection"
"oookkk and what's in the casket?"
"I wouldn't open that..."

the sketch in which Michael is a milkman and Carol came to the door in sexy lingere and motioned him in and upstairs into a room and shut the door and then he look around and saw a bunch of other milkmen (one of which was a skeleton)

The Python's are what I call "Mantlepiece" people, which are people I would like to take home and stick on my mantlepiece (presumably shrunk down to accomodate this). I have quite a large hypothetical collection of these kinds of people.

not letting their toys out of the packages to play.
What am I saying?
Of course you'd play with them!
(who wouldn't?)

I was at a sci-fi convention (stop looking at me like that) and I met this guy in a full stormtrooper suit, he was a massive collector of star wars stuff and he said to me this one thng I will never forget

"I would love to see the faces of the people who keep things in their original packaging when I tear the stuff out and hold it up and go "cool" and then throw the packaging away"

One of the best people I've ever met, just for that attitude, I mean, it's a TOY you are supposed to PLAY with it.

yes yes!
I did that once in Indiana.
Bought the last light saber in best buy (one of those $200 ones or at least it was that much when I got it) and of course it disappointed the people working there for they were probably all working there just to get enough money for one.
"Will you need a bag?"
"No thanks I'm good."
Then I ripped at the packaging right in front of them. I had no idea how they felt about this till I looked over and one of them nearly fell over.

anyway... who HASN'T been to a Sci-Fi convention? It's so much fun at them!

I always feel so at home here.

I would have loved to see that. I get most of the crap I have accumulated cheap because of damaged/missing packaging - why would I want the bloody box, it just takes up space
