AA recruits John Cleese for home emergency ads

AA recruits John Cleese for home emergency ads The AA is supporting its push into home emergency services with an ad campaign fronted by comedian John Cleese.

The ad launches today (18 October) and features the comedy legend in a typically perverse situation, reminiscent of a 'Fawlty Towers' episode.

Confronted with a faulty shower, which is pouring water through the hallway ceiling, Cleese’s character turns to the local newspaper to find a tradesman.

But his daughter calls the AA, which astonishes Cleese. In a response typical of Basil Fawlty, he decides to call the local butchers, to see if they can help him.

The TV ad forms part of a multimillion-pound campaign that also includes press, online advertising, and a direct mail campaign.

Michael Cutbill, AA director of marketing, said: "John Cleese was a natural choice for bringing to life the real benefit of our new Home Emergency service.

"At the core, our new service is offering the quality professionals at short notice, in a situation when they are most needed, and we are confident that the campaign will resonate with consumers."

The AA’s home emergency response cover starts from £5.99 a month for non-members of the AA, and from £4.99 for members. The cover includes emergencies with water pipes, plumbing and drains, internal electrics and pest infestation.

The ad, created by McCann London, is called 'Faulty Shower' and will be screened at 9.15pm on ITV1.

Oh bugger. Only just woken up and I didn't spot your link, johnny. I also meant to ask - is that actually his daughter?

It's not Camilla definitely and I haven't seen Cynthis since what, Fierce Creatures, but I doubt it is her as well.
Thank you for the link Johnny! I somehow've missed it.

OK, so what I don't understand is why he lives with his adult daughter rather than his (Sybilesque) wife.

the_thina at 11:10 am October 20

maybe she just came around to visit? and hey, Im about to live with my parents for a month now, and Im soon 29!

Johnnyrose at 1:02 pm October 20

So what, the_thina... I'm 41 and I'm still living with my wife...

the_thina at 1:28 pm October 20

yes, but maybe the wife was sick, away or even dead. and just saying that just because you are an adult dont mean you have to live at your parents for a while, like in my case, in between apartments

the_thina at 1:29 pm October 20

divorce is also an option
