The first thing I saw in my life that was in any way whatsoever Python-connected.

Here Comes Another One: Raggy Dolls Python casting:

Michael Palin as HiFi
Terry Jones as Sadsack
Eric Idle as Lucy
Graham Chapman as Dotty
John Cleese as Claude
Terry Gilliam as Back-To-Front
Neil is still the narrator, and their chief Minstrel.

Oops, I got it mixed up and one short! Neil can be Lucy, Eric's got to be Princess!

(And so you shall...)

the_thina: hey, just stumbled upon someone who has uploaded the whole first season of raggy dolls on youtube and came to think of this thread. go check it out! pretty amazing to think Ive been a fan of neil since I was about 4 years old, but never knew it before I stumbled upon the english intro of that show on youtube about 1 year ago...

Here Comes Another One at 2:49 am October 28

Brilliant, thanks Thina! Could you maybe post a link though? I searched on YouTube and could only find a couple of random episodes.

Here Comes Another One at 2:52 am October 28

Scratch that, I think I found it :-)

the_thina at 3:12 am October 28

ok, the username was cynthia-something I think. they were uploaded just a few days ago. :)

Here Comes Another One at 3:18 am October 28

Yep, that's the one! I've just been watching "After the Storm," I remember that one from when I was about 4! Nostalgia!

the_thina at 3:21 am October 28

I havent had time to watch it, since I have A LOT TO DO now, and very little time to do it, but I sure will when things have calmed down. so nice to see it in english with neils mega-beautiful voice instaid of the rather horrible swedish dub

Here Comes Another One at 3:24 am October 28

Yeah, he does have a nice voice. Singers often do have pleasant speaking voices. Good luck with whatever you have to do!

the_thina at 3:30 am October 28

yeah, Im seriously in love with his voice, both when he sings and talks. makes me feel calm.
thank you, Im gonna try to sleep away my fever now soon, then back to work

Here Comes Another One: Just watching old recordings - the Iron Boy and the Sandalwood Girl episodes. Is it me or is it a bit disturbing to portray dolls as sentient beings who are trapped in one position, unable to move or speak until a clock strikes thirteen? That's all too Prometheus-ish if you ask me!

genji at 11:32 pm October 23

Maybe. I haven't watched it but children do play with dolls and action figures and give them voices. Might they be replicating that?

Here Comes Another One at 11:50 pm October 23

Not really. One of the stories describes the girl doll sitting beside a window, and an owl flies in, and she sees it and thinks about it but can't move - and it says the days didn't seem as long when she could see the owl there ... then the clock strikes thirteen and she can move and speak. Imagine that in an 'adult' setting ... you've got a horror film. Mind you, I find lots of kids' stuff is scarier if you watch it grown up, just because we think too much! Like 'Return to Oz,' for example. Lots of people I know agree about that one!

genji at 11:55 pm October 23

It does sound disturbing when you put it like that.

gruggywoof: Classic - glad I'm not the only one who remembers this! Still have the books. (Only noticed recently that the theme song is "Love is a Cylindrical Piano", how curious...)

the_thina at 6:32 am October 16

ha! it is! was wondering if it was just me hearing things that wasent there, was getting a mindfuck just because neil happened to be in it..

Here Comes Another One at 7:09 am October 16

OH MY GOD! I feel like a complete idiot. How could I not have spotted that?

the_thina: I have never seen that one, exept from on the internet, I think.
but my first thing was also neil-connected, it was the raggy dolls. but dubbed to swedish, but all the same I loved it. but the theme-song in swedish.... not as nice as it is in english with neils soft voice, I can tell you that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuJDMKAZGGs

Lvndr HppE at 2:52 pm October 18

I prefer the version with Neil's voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmjkoBA4gXo

the_thina at 3:19 pm October 18

hehe. yes obviously I do as well. thats why I posted the swedish one, so everyone could be a bit horrified. ^^

Lvndr HppE at 4:26 pm October 23

Here Comes Another One at 4:22 am October 16

Omg, I no idea the Raggy Dolls was him! I used to love that show! You & I must be relative contemporaries - late '20s?

the_thina at 4:24 am October 16

yes, he sang the intro, narrated it and (from what I have understood) was partly involved in writing the storys. :)
yes, I will be 29 in january. how old are you then?

Here Comes Another One at 4:26 am October 16

27, just. There you go! Hey, I just remembered I used to have a mini-crush on Hifi from the Raggy Dolls, when I was about 5. Weird. :-p

the_thina at 4:33 am October 16

ok, but you are born 83, or 84? Im born in 82, so not that big a difference. :)
haha, hifi, thats the guy with the walkman, no? they had not their english names in the swedish version... dont even remember what he was called in swedish, but I dont think it was hifi. ;)

Here Comes Another One at 5:09 am October 16

Yes, '83, hardly a difference at all! and yes, the guy with the walkman, haha :-)

Lvndr HppE at 2:50 pm October 18

ha! I was born in 83 as well!

the_thina at 5:14 am October 16

but then you will be 28 before the year is over, right?
haha, yeah... I liked the french guy, and the big "fat" one. he was called "påsen" wich rughly means "the bag" in swedish. haha

Here Comes Another One at 7:07 am October 16

I'm 28 next August. Yes, the French guy was hilarious. I don't remember the fat guy. I'll have to do some Raggy Dolls spotting on YouTube - I may even still have one on an old video tape somewhere.

the_thina at 7:15 am October 16

I have seen at least one whole episode of it on youtube. was purring like a cat listening to neil voice telling the story. he really has a great voice for telling tails, almost as good as his old chum vivian stanshall had...

Here Comes Another One at 3:31 pm October 18

Yeah, his voice is great!

the_thina at 3:47 pm October 18

yep. both singing and speaking it sounds great. would not mind to have a nice audio-book read by him to fall asleep to. that may sound wierd. haha. but there is nothing that calms me down as much as listening to a nice voice telling a story, or just talking about anything
