Python/Harry Potter?

Well I'm new here, so this may have been done. But. It occurred to me the other day that Python and Potter would be a dream combination, since I think the movies take themselves far too seriously and could do with an injection of comedy. So if the (young) Pythons did Harry Potter, how would you cast it? I think Eric Idle as Hermione, for starters ... :-)

The Ex-Leper: oh, and John Cleese as Nearly Headless Nick. XD

Here Comes Another One at 11:51 pm November 30

I don't think he'd suit the role, I think the guy who played Nick in the movie was much better. LOL.

The Ex-Leper at 9:57 am December 01

ahhh righto yeah that guy WAS pretty fantastic who was he anyways? :D

Here Comes Another One at 4:33 pm December 01

Just some random actor. Influenced by Cleese tho' I believe.

The Ex-Leper at 6:25 pm December 01

ahh well then no wonder he was so fantastic in those films then ;D

The Ex-Leper: I said it before I will say it again Terry Jones as Mrs. Weasley

Here Comes Another One at 3:24 am November 25

Saw Potter 7 today & saw Molly standing at the sink - cracked up laughing cos of you guys making me imagine TJ!

mrsCutout: There used to be a thread like this one.Probably long gone now haha! But as I said again I'd love to see Jonesy as Moly Weasely! And Neville. Eric as Hermione is great!! Graham could be Lupin!! Mike as Harry and Jonesy again as Ron!

TheNicePython: Uhh, I like this thread... I'm a huge Python fan and a huge Harry Potter fan, and I really think that more Pythons should have starred in the films.. J.K. Rowling is a Python fan, and she actually wanted Terry Gilliam to direct one of the two first films, but Warner Brothers wanted a more familiy friendly director. I would have loved to see Terry Gilliam direct, at least for the visuel parts.. Jonesy however would probably have been the best to direct the cast..
Back on the track...
I could easily see:
Mike as Harry Potter(He really looks like HP in an episode of DNAYS..The same glasses), mr. Weasley, Remus Lupin, one of the Weasley twins, and Voldemort(I would love to see Mike as the bad guy)..
John as Hagrid(he's got the height), Snape, Ron, Dumbledore, Malfoy and of course Nearly Headless Nick.
Terry Jones as Molly Weasley(obviously!), Neville, McGonagall, Prof. Sprout, Dolores Umbridge and Percy Weasley
Eric as Hermione, Sirius Black, Xenophilius Lovegood, one of the Weasley twins and Ginny
Terry Gilliam as Mad-Eye Moody, Bellatrix, prof. Slughorn, Peter Pettigrew and Creature
Graham as Luna, Lucius Malfoy, Gilderoy Lockhart and prof. Quirrel..

the_thina at 8:41 pm November 21

she is a python-fan? that brilliant! and I can see some humor I really enjoy in at least the books. ron and the twins are extremely funny IMO. and yes, it would be great if gilly could have at least co-directed. but hey, bet she was thrilled to have john as nearly headless nick. :)

TheNicePython at 8:33 am November 22

Have you seen the new Harry Potter film? I really think that Eric would have been perfect for the part of Xenophilius Lovegood.... I had him in mind, when I read the book...I can easily see all the Pythons in Harry Potter - they are magic! But at least we've got one Python

mrsCutout at 2:16 pm November 23

OMG I agree with you completely!!! Oh love Fred and George so much! And I agree with Gilly having directed at least one of the films....or at least Tim Burton! Anyway you can clearly see she's influenced by Pythons in the HP booksEspecialy the Fred and George parts are too obvious!!

the_thina at 9:29 am November 22

no, havent seen the new one yet, but since I have read the books I do know who he is. :) I will however go and see the new one once I moved in to visby, wich I will in 9 days from now.

thewastelandr at 10:09 pm November 21

YES I agree, Thina - Ron and the twins are my favorite characters too!!

the_thina at 9:30 am November 22

yay! *high-five* they are just so... I love them! and hagrid. haha. dont forget hagrid. :) but the twins are so crazy, and ron is just... the sweetest little teenage-missfit ever. :)

thewastelandr at 4:43 pm November 22

Yes!!! Agreed on all counts! I also really love Sirius. And I actually like Lucius and Draco a lot. They have their good sides! But the twins are the BEST!

the_thina at 5:52 pm November 22

oh yes, sirius was wonderful. not too fond about the malfoys tho, but Io like snape

thewastelandr at 7:02 pm November 22

Aww yes Snape... also one of my favorites! Such great books!

the_thina at 6:15 am November 23

yes they are. feels a bit sad that the series is over now. ok, I was not one of those crying at the release-date of the last book, but it IS a bit sad there wont be more. unless she strats writing about the kids, but that would not be the same thing

thewastelandr at 2:22 pm November 23

Yeah... I think it should be over too. It wouldn't be the same if she kept writing about the kids. I love the series though, and think that it is really good literature for kids and adults.

Tanya_Birklid19 at 8:45 pm November 21

"Family friendly director" lawlz I would so see Jonesy as Percy, and the same goes for Mike as Harry (I totally agree on that part).

Here Comes Another One at 9:00 pm November 21

That's interesting, TheNicePython! How much better the Potter films would have been if either of the Python Terrys had been director! I agree with nearly all your choices too, especially Graham as Luna, oh my God, that's fantastic! I think that Graham would make a good Snape tho' because he does this hilarious sinister thing (think The Big Cheese). He or Eric could do Lockhart.

TheNicePython at 8:37 am November 22

I think we should do a remake of the Harry Potter films with only the Pythons in them :) That would be great!!

Here Comes Another One at 3:47 pm November 22

Definitely something the world needs. There is a parody with Dawn French as Harry, Jennifer Saunders as Ron, and many more including Ronnie Corbett as Hagrid. Check Youtube if you haven't seen it!

the_thina at 4:17 pm November 22

looked it up, thank you! and lovely ade edmondson was in it! <3
but you know, dawn was in the "real" HP-movies (at least some of them) as well, as the lady in the portrait they give passwords to get into their "house" you know. :)

Here Comes Another One at 8:00 am November 23

She made a great Fat Lady. Better than in the 1st movie.

The Ex-Leper: jones for Molly Weasley of course because he makes the best plump motherly character

mrsCutout at 1:41 pm October 04

Hahhaha yes I agree!

Here Comes Another One at 9:45 pm October 04

Brilliant, yes! And Palin as Mr Weasley; the couple from Confuse-A-Cat and the Podgornys remind me of the Weasleys :-p

the_thina: I think jonesy would have made a good hagrid. (my favourite harry p character)
mike as ron... for the george and fred I would take the two that look least alike just for the hell of it so jonesy (again) and john. hehe

Here Comes Another One at 5:04 pm September 26

Yeah, they could say a stretching or compressing spell had gone wrong and stuck!

the_thina at 5:19 pm September 26

haha, exactly. ^^

mrsCutout at 1:42 pm October 04

Hahaha yes that's a good choice! although I prefer Jones as Molly as well!

genji: Hasn't this actually been done, in real life? John Cleese was in Harry Potter, wasn't he? I can't say I saw his performance.

Hanri at 12:33 pm September 26

Yeah he was Nearly Headless Nick. :)

Here Comes Another One at 5:05 pm September 26

Well yes he was, but only for abt 5 minutes, & that doesn't really Pythonise it enough!

mrsCutout: Hmmm how about Gilly as Ron? And Jonesy and Mike as the twins?

thewastelandr: John would HAVE to be Dumbledore!
