Terry Gilliam will receive the Fellowship Award and a retrospective tribute to his work at this year's Bradford Film Festival.

Since making his name with the Monty Python team, he has directed movies including Jabberwocky, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Twelve Monkeys, Brazil, The Fisher King, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Time Bandits.

Gilliam said: "To be honoured by such an important festival pre-posthumously will force my family to treat me with some respect while I'm still alive. I will always be grateful for that."

As well as his best-known films, the retrospective programme of Gilliam's work will include screenings of early shorts such as Storytime and The Miracle of Flight along with The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and his newest short film The Wholly Family.

The festival, which runs from 16 to 27 March, will also give a Lifetime Achievement Award is Claire Bloom, best known for her roles in Richard III, Look Back in Anger, Limelight, Islands in the Stream and The Haunting.

a_nervous_wreck: OMG! Yeah, you deserve this Gil! I literally just finished watching Jabberwocky a few minutes ago, and if all his works are like this he should be winning this and beyond!

Here Comes Another One: Woohoo! Good for His Awesomeness!
