Things that make us think of Python

Sometimes there are things not really related to Python that make me think of Python. Since I doubt I'm the only one that happens to, I decided to start this thread so if anyone else has things that make him or her think of Python he or she can share it here.

To start us off, there is a candy company called "The Gilliam Candy Company". I don't think I have to explain why that makes me think of Python :) although as far as I know Terry's family doesn't own it. They've been around since 1927 and as long as I can remember that has been my favorite brand as far as hard candy is concerned.

Lvndr HppE: I was watching an old episode of Third Rock From The Sun. Dick and his girlfriend were dancing somba to an instrumental version of "Brazil". I smiled and started singing the lyrics.

the_thina at 8:14 pm May 24

I watched brazil last week, and now its the same as always, the song stuck in my mind, and I dont even LIKE the song!

J.Gambolputty: This Kummeli video reminded me of those sketches where Graham comes to end them because of they're too silly. Though it's a policeman on the video...
I don't know if they do it on purpose or not.

Hanri at 11:58 pm May 23

Exactly my thoughts.... :D I believe they've done it on purpose. Altough here they changed it from "too silly" to "too nonsensical". Here's the original go at it with the piggy and the fly. Can't but lol.

Lvndr HppE: So, this isn't exactly Python, but I just saw a Geico commercial (it's a car insurance company, in case you've never heard of them). There were these two guys on a boat and they were waiting for their third guy. The boat's name was Time Bandit.

a_nervous_wreck at 9:46 am May 21

Oh I know which one you're talking about, its one of the caveman ones right? That boat is also on a show called Deadliest Catch. My dad loves it, I kinda like it.

Hanri at 10:53 am May 21

I too like the show, the Time Bandit caught my attention to watch the thing. ;)

French Taunter: The History channel reminds me some scenes of the Holy Grail: "Bring out your deads!" because in some image they show the people dying in the streets or also with the templr knights who make me think about sir Glahad the Pure. And just now I watched the documentary called "Dark ages" from the History channel and that makes think a lot to the Holy grail and vice-versa.

l_wojcik: Okay, this is kinda an inappropriate time to reference Python but, I couldn't help it! It was right there!
So, my friends were having a party on the floor above us. Tess and I went to find one of our other friends that we know would be there. We found her past out on the bed in her room and her boyfriend (at the time) didn't want anyone one to touch her.
I told him, "We need to call someone because she's not moving." He kept saying, "No, she's fine. She's just past out!" I said "Brent! She's breathing but she's not moving! She needs to go to the E.R." But Brent kept saying "She's just sleeping!"
Now, I don't know about you but, this sounds like the dead parrot sketch to me. Luckily, our friend was only sick with a REALLY high blood- alcohol ratio and came home the next day. It wasn't until the next day that I made the reference. Hahaha...

Lvndr HppE at 9:56 pm May 20

It's good to know that she has a friend like you. Glad she's okay.

The Ex-Leper: hi I know I haven't been on here in forever but I am back and I would just like to announce that I will be seeing Spamalot in officially less than a week. That is all. :D

l_wojcik at 9:58 am May 19

I just saw it on the 16th and it was wonderful! You're going to have a ball!

The Ex-Leper at 10:59 pm May 23

oh my goodness it was FABULOUS I really smiled the entire time and afterwards I bought a mug! :D

crzyltvn: I was listening to the radio (online) when a song I don't know by a band that I really like came up. Just for background, this band doesn't really do any truly serious songs. They're usually funny or nonsense. Anyways, the song was about listening to the radio and it got noisier and noisier until it ended with an explosion. Exploding Penguin on the Telly (not sure what the sketch is actually called but that's what I call it) came to mind right away.

the_thina: wnt to the library a few days ago. a very small library inside a hospital, since Im too lazy to go across town to the big one I order books online and pick them up in this one. but now I was returning books and went to see if I could find something interesting and ended up in the philososphy-corner. and well, when I found the name immanuel kant I started giggeling. ^^ there was also other names from the song.
and I ended up taking nieizsche home, still not sure why, if it was the python-influence or just that I wanted to make up my own mind about him

a_nervous_wreck: Watching a documentary called Barbarian Lives. Its a four part documentary about the Celts fighting the Romans in the time of Julius Caesar. Guess who its narrated by... you guessed it. TERRY FREAKING JONES! And I'm not just watching it cause he's in it, I actually find it quite interesting, but he just makes it so much better. :)

arkennedy at 3:44 pm May 01

I know what you mean, awhile back I watched Medieval Lives on Youtube (also narrated by Terry Jones) and while I would find the topic interesting anyway Terry made it even better :)

a_nervous_wreck at 3:48 pm May 01

I know, right? Its like something in his voice just makes everything more interesting

Mrs Attila the Hun 93: <- Does this remind one of The Meaning of Life?

Lvndr HppE at 10:46 am April 27

Yeah, I definately see what they were doing here.

Ms. Neutron 1974: I just got a tooth pulled, and for a few minutes before it, I was worried that a gumby would come in and hit me on the head with a tank of gas yelling "ANASTETIC!!" Luckily that didn't happen.

Here Comes Another One at 5:02 am April 27

Yes, that would have occurred to me too! Ugh, I hate getting teeth pulled. I might have been thinking of Secret Service Dentists, too. "And Flopsy's glad too, aren't you Flopsy?' lol

Ms. Neutron 1974: I don't know if this counts, but I was at church today because it's Easter, and during the homily our priest was talking about Jesus dying and said,"It's just like that Monty Python sketch, He's expired and gone to meet his maker, he has ceased to be." I was so surprised and I laughed the loudest of the whole congregation. Then I felt bad because the priest started talking about his sister dying and I was still smiling and giggling.

Here Comes Another One at 7:42 pm April 24

That is the trouble with Python references, they take a while to get over. :-) I like the sound of your priest, anyway!

Here Comes Another One: I thought I'd be safe putting classical music on to work with, but what should come up on the playlist but Gounod's Waltz from Faust - aka the music from the Cycling Tour? XDDD

I was reading my favorite webcomic, and for April fool's day, the guy did this. I almost died laughing

a_nervous_wreck: This is my great grandma Alice. She is 97 years old in June, born in Liverpool, and as I recently just now found out... A PYTHON FAN! I was showing her some of the pictures I've taken and one was a picture of Eric in drag, and she said "Oh Eric Idle! Oh I used to love him on Flying Circus." Turns out that at 56 she started watching Monty Python, and before that DNAYS and 1948 show! Oh I love her even more now! And I think she said something about being in the audience for one of the shows, but I didn't really understand what she was saying

the_thina at 10:40 pm April 15

that is EXTREMELY cool! wonder if the lads know they have fans that are 30 years older than themselfs. :D
and if there is any + in the filename, remove them and the picture should load.

a_nervous_wreck at 5:45 pm April 07

Stupid picture won't load

a_nervous_wreck at 5:46 pm April 07

Lvndr HppE: So, I was watching one of those documentaries that my mom loves so much. In this one, some Australian guy went on a 60 day juice fast. He lost over 90 pounds by just drinking juice for 60 days. This inspired another guy to go on a 10 day juice fast, which lead to him going on a 60 day juice fast. I promise I'm getting to my point. So he was talking to his brother about going on the juice fast, and his brother was saying how he didn't want to do it, because it would mean giving up spam. The guy then laughed and said in a high pitched voice "I hate spam!" I started giggling uncontrolably.

Here Comes Another One at 1:25 am April 07

omg, I've seen that guy. He talks as if no one ever drank juice before. Git. I didn't see the spam bit though - that's brilliant!

Here Comes Another One: I'm having a terrible time marking undergraduate history essays. First there was one on Louis XIV. Then there was one with another king, but the student got his number wrong. Now I click on the next one, and what am I faced with but the words: 'Oliver Cromwell (April 1599 - September 1658), Lord Protector of England ...

What has Python done to me?

Here Comes Another One: It's not quite Python, but nearly. Watching The Shawshank Redemption - the most gruesome part of it, near the beginning, and the narration: 'Sometimes Andy was able to fight them off' - and I thought 'He needed the cloak invisible. "Now you see me, now you don't!" "I am the wind!" ' Just proves what an awesome actor Tim Robbins is. You couldn't ask for 2 more diverse fight scenes ...

Ah, I love Erik The Viking. XD

Lvndr HppE at 9:50 pm March 28

That had to be the best part of that entire movie. :-D

Here Comes Another One at 4:25 am March 29

One of them, at least - I can never decide on a favourite. Probably the whole Hy-Brasil sequence, including the fight.

Incidentally, I wonder if I'm the only one who's noticed a slight similarity between the Hy-Brasil singing and the school song thing in Tomkinson's Schooldays? XD

Here Comes Another One: Was watching a Japanese game show & on a mountain bike challenge, the contestant rang his bell and the commentator said: 'He's ringing his bell!' I of course thought: 'Ling your berr! Ling ling!'

This is from some educational chemistry site which we examined in school.
I think you can see why I thought Python when this picture came... ;)

Here Comes Another One at 8:55 pm March 25

FOCL! (falls off chair laughing)

A. Lupin at 4:41 pm April 05

haha, that is terrific!

a_nervous_wreck: I had my mom take a picture of me in my new pea-coat, glasses, and Jeff to show my friends that I look like a Russian spy or something with them on, and as I was looking at the picture I thought I looked like one of the Russian operatives from the Pither Bicycle Journey sketch. It may just be me though, so I thought I'd see what you guys have to say

A. Lupin at 4:42 pm April 05

Are you taking your friends to a Clam Bake?

a_nervous_wreck at 10:36 pm March 22

GRR! Show up picture!

Here Comes Another One at 11:09 pm March 22

Are you a grocer or an icecream salesman?

a_nervous_wreck at 12:50 am March 23

I got promoted to Chartered Accountant... :)

The Ex-Leper: okay I am in a performance of Chicago and we are backstage and this random guy who I have never even talked to before is standing there near me. All of a sudden totally out of the blue he says "I never wanted to be an actor..." and I was thinking "wait as second..." and then he says it "I wanted to be... a LUMBERJACK!!" and we both start shouting at the same time "leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia! The giant redwood! The larch! The fir! The mighty Scots Pine!!" etc etc and then proceeded to sing the lumberjack song and it may have been one of the best moments of my life.

the_thina at 4:35 pm March 22

future husband maybe? now THAT would be an awesome "how we met"-story!
