Things that make us think of Python

Sometimes there are things not really related to Python that make me think of Python. Since I doubt I'm the only one that happens to, I decided to start this thread so if anyone else has things that make him or her think of Python he or she can share it here.

To start us off, there is a candy company called "The Gilliam Candy Company". I don't think I have to explain why that makes me think of Python :) although as far as I know Terry's family doesn't own it. They've been around since 1927 and as long as I can remember that has been my favorite brand as far as hard candy is concerned.

I do think it's 'fetchez'

Here Comes Another One at 10:21 pm January 28

It is 'fetchez'. It would be the imperative, like 'ite!' in Latin, 'go' as an order - 'allez!' in French. 'Fetchez' is joke French of course. Really it would be 'allez chercher la vache,' which literally translates as 'go to search (for) the cow.' Let's face it, 'fetchez la vache' is funnier!

the_thina at 7:42 am January 29

I just go for what the subtitle has told me, since I dont know a word of french. well, some words, but Im far from able to talk to someone in french if you know what I mean... and since "fetch" is what you say (in english) to a dog when you throw a stick "fetche la vache" just seems to make sense. like taking an english word and make it sound french-like.

l_wojcik: Another one I just had to post. I was watching Two and a Half Men. The introduction song started and I was taken by complete surprise when my mom started singing along but, instead of saying "Men" she decided to sing the word "Spam" in it's place! Love love love it!

the_thina at 9:53 am January 28

hahaha. never thought of it, but the melodies are a bit similar right in the beginning. just a little, but enough to make you giggle

Here Comes Another One at 10:21 pm January 28

Haha, good point!

Tanya_Birklid19 at 12:04 pm January 29

lawlz I just sang the theme song with the word "spam"! it does work!

a_nervous_wreck: Yesterday my dad was watching Cash Cab on TV, and I didn't here the whole question, but I did here the words "python fans" and "full monty", so I immediately thought Monty Python, and sure enough, the answer was Spamalot. There's a funny little story that goes along with this to. After I heard the answer, I, in my sugar fueled craziness, decided to run down the hall very quickly so I could shout a Python reference before the next question. While I was running down the hall, thinking of what to say, the air suddenly decided to trip me. So I flew the last few feet into the living room, and while airborne I yelled out "SPAM!" , and then landed on my stomach in front of the TV, laughing hysterically about it. :)

Here Comes Another One at 7:59 pm January 22

LOL! That would have been hilarious!

a_nervous_wreck at 9:21 pm January 22

It was. My dad and me couldn't stop laughing for about five minutes, and my mom was doing laundry when my actual flight occured, so she just walked in on us laughing. :)

Lvndr HppE: There was this kid on the bus sitting across from me that was reading a Superman comic, but Superman seemed to have a British flag on his chest, just under the "S". Well, next to it were the words "Faulty Powers". I just had to smile, because it sounded just like "Fawlty Towers"! I bet that kid didn't even get the reference. :-\

Here Comes Another One at 5:13 am January 22

Haha - probably not! He's missing out if he didn't!

a_nervous_wreck: Oh my God, two python related things happened today. One, I was watching a documentary on some war, and this general was doing a speech, and he kept saying python related things. He said at one point, "and it is up to people like us..." and there was a pause, so I finished for him, "...who are out of our tiny little minds." And also, during my History final today, one of the questions was about Spanish Nationalism or something, and the person next to me said, "well I didn't expect that." And I couldn't stop myself from whispering "nobody does." And then when that was done the girl next to me was saying how comfy the rolling chairs in the class were, and I had to go "not the comfy chair!"

Tanya_Birklid19: Okay, peeps, listen to this: So I went to see 'Godspell' at KCACTF and it's about Jesus . . . that's all I know. I never saw before unitl now. Anyway, there's one point in the musical when they going over the whole sermon on the mound stuff. And one said "Blessed are the meek", and I just started giggling so hard, and then I muttered to myself "Blessed are the cheesemakers" right before someone said "Blessed are the peacemakers." I giggled a lot during that part.

Here Comes Another One at 5:11 am January 22

Aaaaand, *like* for this one as well ...

l_wojcik: Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I sit in my Philosophy class trying like hell not to laugh. Of course the class reminds me of the philosophy song. But, the other day, our professor decided to explain to us what a legitimate and effective arguement is. So I came back at him by saying, "An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition". I was amazed when he paused for a moment, looked at me with a smirk and then said with an over- the- top British accent "Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position". That's just great.

Here Comes Another One at 5:12 am January 22

And *like* for this one as well! Wow - three really awesome Python-related happenings at the top of this thread!!!

Here Comes Another One at 5:14 am January 22

Er, sorry, four really awesome Python-related things. (And nice red uniforms ... oh, damn.)

the_thina: ok. 2 recent things!

first I got out a book with short-storys by stephen king, one i had not read for years. and in one of the storys there was a character named SPIKE MILLIGAN. i kid you not1 and since i would have no idea who the original spike was if it wasent for python, yeah...

and theN I was watching some super-serious documentary about something from bbc. and this one guy said "it is a very real problem" and I thought of.. waaaaait fooooor it! silly walks

the_thina: was just now watching mythbusters, and they had sort of a collage of different explotions they had done. and playing classical music over the collage. I started thinking of a sketch I dont know the name of, but it jonesy I think, in a tux on a field blowing up musicians I think while playing classical music (yeah I know I NEED to watch FC again, my explenation was very foggy) and then all of a sudden there was one explosion with one of those cardboard human-shapes that you practise shooting at in front of it. and for a split second when my brain just registerd "explotion. human shape" I thought they had taken footage of that sketch and put in. XD

Here Comes Another One at 7:48 pm January 09

That's "Exploding Blue Danube" in 'Royal Episode 13,' Series 2. I love that one! I can see why that Mythbusters episode made you think of it. :-p

the_thina at 6:53 am January 10

was I at least right about that it was jonesy? haha.
yeah it was a countdown of their greatest hits so to speak. :) i love mythbusters

Here Comes Another One at 8:11 am January 10

I think it's him. It's really hard to tell at the distance. I know the sketch itself is a Cleese effort, because it's on John's Personal Best list, but the actual guy looks far more like Jonesy.

the_thina at 8:37 am January 10

haha, yeah, its quite a difference between john and jonesy in height and shape. ;) and yeah, I could not remember if you could see his face or not, but for some reason jonesy was the first one that popped up in my mind when I thought of the sketch.. even if it was a while since I saw it I HAVE seen it many times, since it was in some 1-hour collection from flyíng circus they showed on telly at the 30th annoversery and I taped it, long before I had FC on dvd

The Ex-Leper at 11:27 pm January 09

I love that sketch :D

Jatta: Last night at work I was on my way to the ship when one of the truck drivers stopped me to ask if his truck could be loaded on the main deck because he has “another truck put on top of his truck”. I just had to ask him if he often puts things on top of other things but he just looked very confused so I promised that I would have a word with the Mate and I was sure there was no trouble loading his truck on main deck. I had this stupid grin on my face for the rest of the evening, as I usually do when I think of all things Python. If only he had used any other words...

arkennedy at 3:02 pm January 07

Thanks for sharing that one :)

Not that late at 5:16 am January 07

I love that look on the face of a non-python-believer when you say a quote and they don't get it!

the_thina at 2:19 pm January 07

haha, I do too. they probobly think you have gone completely mental, but who cares, I am a looney and proud to be so! XD

Jatta at 5:26 am January 07

Yeah, I always feel a bit evil when I do that, but it's just too much fun to miss :D

Here Comes Another One at 6:01 am January 07

HAHAHA! That is priceless! I was just thinking about that sketch the other day; I was talking to my mum & something she said reminded me of it.

Lvndr HppE: So, I'm watching this old Marilyn Monroe movie, called "Let's Make Love" and in the beginning of it, they talk about this man who was a balloon enthusiast. He reminded me of brothers in "The Golden Age of Ballooning" episode. :-D

The Ex-Leper: so I plan on being a veterinarian when I am an adult and I am pretty sure that when I am I will be saying things like "Now what seems to be the trouble? You can tell me... I'm a vet you know." and asking people if their pets are dead and when they say no I will say "Thank God for that for one ghastly moment I thought I was...too late. If ONLY more people would call in the nick of time!" hahaha it will be awesome

The Ex-Leper at 5:31 pm January 05

and I could NEVER be a vegetarian, you guys. I am a regular lioness haha

Lvndr HppE at 5:07 pm January 04

lol. At first, I thought you said you wanted to be "vegetarian" when you become an adult. I was wondering how that quote would work. :-D Good on ya. I've got a dog. Would you give discounts to Python fans?

The Ex-Leper at 5:29 pm January 05

of course!!! if they got my references I would but only if they got it hahaha

Not that late at 5:15 am January 05

I read vegetarian too!!! XDD

TheSister91 at 11:27 am January 05

ops I'm the only one to have read correctly!! LOL

J.Gambolputty at 5:27 am January 05

Oh, I'm planning to go study veterinary also.. in a.. few years though.. ;)
By the way Lvndr Hppe, what dog do you have?

Lvndr HppE at 11:21 am January 05

An adult male "miniature" shih tzu named Mozart. I say "miniature" in quotes, because he's bigger than any shih tzu I've ever seen before. I guess the toy variety is more popular. He's a lazy thing, but I love him.

J.Gambolputty at 11:24 am January 05

Ah, I see. I've got a slightly larger one, a german shepherd. ;) Her name is Wilma.

Lvndr HppE at 11:26 am January 05

lol. So, when you're calling her, do you go "Wiiiiiilllmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" like in the Flintstones cartoons?

J.Gambolputty at 12:05 pm January 05

:DD Well, not quite.. Actually I pronounce it like 'Vilma' with a V, finnish people say it like that.

Lvndr HppE: I picked up the new Rolling Stone magazine, because it had an article on the Last Lennon tapes. Well, it also had a piece in it on the hottest music videos this winter. On the top of the list was "Christmas Light" by my favorite band, Coldplay. Rolling Stone magazine wrote that it was " awesomely Gilliam-ed out". Nice to think he's an adjective now.

The Ex-Leper: last night I was eating dinner with some people I know and one of them was saying the different moods of a cat and another friend was impersonating each cat mood and one of the moods was confused cat and I shouted "Confuse-A-Cat Limited!" and NOBODY got my reference and it was slightly tragic

Colonel Daughter at 4:36 pm January 04

well *I* laughed , if that can help :D

Lvndr HppE at 11:07 am January 04

lol. Well, at least you have us. :-)

The Ex-Leper at 2:41 pm January 04

yes I have no idea what I would do without this place hahaha

Here Comes Another One: Was out at Samford today - that's a small country-ish town on the outskirts of Brisbane - and saw a shop with a large sign in the window proclaiming it sold pumps. I expect you can guess why that made me think of Python. If my pump ever catches in my trouser leg I'll know where to go!
