Twelve Days of Christmas - Monty Python Version!

Since Christmas season is vastly approaching,
An idea came to me to have us develop our own Monty Python "Twelve Days" Carol. :D

I'd figure I would start us off ;)

[i]On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me - A Gumby in a fruit tree.[i]

Next person will post 'On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me, two - ?' line and put '- A Gumby in a fruit tree.' on the end, and so forth, adding on lines until we get to twelve.

All together now!

Enjoy!

arkennedy: I just thought of something.

Wouldn't it be great to hear Eric Idle or Neil Innes sing this version of Twelve Days of Christmas?

the_thina at 3:18 pm December 23

ooooh yeah! they can sing it both. one singing the main lyrics one going bom bom bom bom-bpm-bombehind, like a barbarshop-quartet of 2.

arkennedy:

Here are the Lyrics to the Python Version of Twelve Days of Christmas. Click on the image for a larger version.

and here are the lyrics to the traditional version of Twelve Days of Christmas (for anyone who doesn't know the song):

On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!

If whoever makes the mash for this song wants to use these lyrics they are mash ready as well except for a little editing to separate each section of the song.

thewastelandr at 2:33 pm December 23

Yay! Love it!

Lady and Laird Candermine:

This was fuckin' brilliant... clap, clap, clap.... how'd we miss this??? but we came in on the end and got to read the whole thing... they are all gems~~ .

the_thina: yay! cant wait for the mash now.:D

can we start a new one? this was fun!

danagumby: On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, twelve crazy prophets, eleven dead parrots, ten upper-class twits, nine gumbies dancing, eight sheep a'flying, seven wafer-thin mints, six holy sandals, five moisteneb bints, four fish licenses, five (three, sir) musical mice, two killer rabbits and a gumby in a fruit tree.

arkennedy at 5:55 pm December 22

Here are 12 crazy prophets.

If any one wants to make a mash for this song feel free to use the images I posted in this thread. I think Amy (pythongeek03) should get first choice on whether she wants to be the one to make the mash or not, though. Because she is the one who came up with the idea for a Python version of 12 Days of Christmas. Which I've really enjoyed :)

Thanks Amy :D

arkennedy at 6:05 pm December 22

Tanya_Birklid19: Got another one: On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me nine upper-class twits, eight sheep a flying, seven wafer-thin mints, six holy sandals, five moistened bints, four fish licenses, five (three sir) musical mice, two killer rabbits, and a Gumby in a fruit tree.

arkennedy: Nine Gumbies Dancing

On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me nine Gumbies dancing, eight sheep a flyin, seven wafer-thin mints, six holy sandals, five moistened bints, four fish license, five (three sir) musical mice, two killer rabbits, and a Gumby in a fruit tree

arkennedy at 5:10 pm December 21

My mother saw this thread and liked the idea of a Python 12 days of Christmas song so the Dancing Gumbies lyric is her contribution.

Tanya_Birklid19 at 4:16 pm December 21

Oops! Make that TEN upper-class twits.

arkennedy at 11:30 pm December 21

Here are ten upper class twits

Tanya_Birklid19: On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me eight sheep a flyin, seven wafer-thin mints, six holy sandals, five moistened bints, four fish license, five (three sir) musical mice, two killer rabbits, and a Gumby in a fruit tree.

marga: On the sixth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, six HOLY SANDALS

arkennedy at 3:12 pm December 21

Here are six Holy Sandals.

thewastelandr at 12:53 pm December 21

Oops! Ok we'll make mine 7 wafer-thin mints!

arkennedy at 3:14 pm December 21

Here is what I think wafer thin mints might looks like.

pythongeek03: So this what we have so far: :D

Five moistened bints
four fish-licences
(Five) no three musical mice,
two killer rabbits,
and a gumby in a fruit tree!

BroMaynardG: 5 - no 3 sir - moistened bints!

the_thina at 8:37 am December 21

BroMaynardG at 3:58 pm December 21

Well Thank You! I'll save a Partridge for you. His name is Keith!

the_thina at 12:13 am December 22

haha. as I said on facebook, I have missed your strange posts. just like the one Im replying to now. ;)
where have you been?

BroMaynardG: 5 - no 3 sir - moistened bints!

arkennedy at 11:55 am December 21

These are some of the Ladies of the Lake from Spamalot. I chose to use them because of Michael's line in the Holy Grail about how a moistened bint lobbing a scimitar at someone doesn't make them a king.

To make them look "moistened" I overlayed the image with an image of the water in a lake.

Arthur: I am your king!
Woman: Well I didn't vote for you!
Arthur: You don't vote for kings!
Woman: Well 'ow'd you become king then?
(holy music up)
Arthur: The Lady of the Lake-- her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite,
held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by
divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why
I am your king!
Man: (laughingly) Listen: Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords
is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power
derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some... farcical
aquatic ceremony!
Arthur: (yelling) BE QUIET!
Man: You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some
watery tart threw a sword at you!!
Arthur: (coming forward and grabbing the man) Shut *UP*!
Man: I mean, if I went 'round, saying I was an emperor, just because some
moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

the_thina at 12:16 am December 22

yeah, and that, in case someone didnt know, was how lady of the lake in spamalot came from. dont forget there is still some pepole in here whos never seen it.

arkennedy at 4:18 pm December 22

In that case I hope I haven't spoiled Spamalot for people who haven't seen it.

Actually I haven't had a chance to see Spamalot either so I'm not even sure exactly what I may have given away. The reason I know about the character of the Lady of the Lake is because I've been to the Spamalot website: http://www.montypythonsspamalot.com/

Like many of us here who haven't seen it yet (and perhaps some people who have) I'd love to see it.

BroMaynardG: 5 - no 3 sir - moistened bints!

thewastelandr: Can we post more than one lyric, or just once?

pythongeek03 at 9:23 am December 21

Yes you are welcome to post more than one. ;)

the_thina at 8:35 am December 21

lets finich this one, then we can start a new. :)

arkennedy:

I can see this as something that could make a great Mash when it's finished so I thought I might supply some images for this thread. (they should be mash ready) Here is a Gumby in a fruit tree.

pythongeek03 at 11:56 pm December 20

Brilliant Work Arky! :D

arkennedy at 9:57 am December 21

Thanks :)

the_thina: On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me, four fish-licences and a half a bee three musical mice, two killer rabbits, and a gumby in a fruit tree!

the_thina at 9:56 pm December 20

might have done it wrong, since I have never sung thins song (live in sweden you know) so I dont know if there is suposed to be rimbing, thats why I put in the half a bee

pythongeek03 at 11:53 pm December 20

yeah i think it may sound better without *half a bee* bit.. ;)
Thanks for the contributing.

arkennedy at 12:07 pm December 21

Here are the four fish licenses without the half a bee

arkennedy at 12:16 pm December 21

Btw: if you click on the image the top right liscense is blue like the other image I posted with the half a bee included. I'm not sure why it isn't in this preview.
